Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about “LEVELS.”

The idea is simple: every new level requires a different mindset. The approach that gets you here rarely gets you to the next level.

Research feels like it’s entering one of these moments.

For years, the formula for success was clear: collect data, understand consumers, deliver insights that helped organizations make better decisions. Great research created clarity. It reduced uncertainty. It built confidence.

That foundation hasn’t changed.

What has changed is what organizations expect from research.

Today, the question isn’t just, What did we learn? It’s How do we use what we learned?

That’s why the relationship between research and media is becoming so important.

Historically, research and activation lived on separate tracks. Researchers uncovered insights. Media teams reached audiences. Both created value, but the handoff often left a gap between understanding consumers and acting on that understanding.

That gap is finally starting to close.

As data, audience, and activation ecosystems become more connected, insights no longer have to end in a presentation. Research outputs can become usable audiences. Learnings can shape planning, activation, optimization, and measurement.

Instead of a linear process, research becomes part of a continuous cycle:

Learn → Activate → Measure → Improve

That’s a fundamentally different role for research.

Think about a World Cup team preparing for a tournament. Analysts study opponents, identify strengths and weaknesses, and uncover opportunities. Those insights matter—but championships aren’t won because a team produced the best scouting report.

They’re won because the team turns preparation into execution.

Research is no different.

Its value isn’t fully realized when insights appear on a slide. It’s realized when those insights influence decisions, improve customer experiences, shape communications, and help organizations reach the right people more effectively.

For research agencies, this represents a significant opportunity.

The next level isn’t about replacing traditional research. It’s about extending its impact.

Instead of producing one-time deliverables, research can create reusable assets. Audience segments can move seamlessly from strategy to activation. Insights can become inputs that drive campaigns, inform measurement, and continuously improve future decisions.

That shift changes what great research looks like.

It means:

  • Building audiences that live beyond the final presentation.
  • Creating a seamless path from insight to activation.
  • Accelerating the journey from learning to action.
  • Measuring business impact—not just research deliverables.
  • Developing repeatable frameworks that scale across brands, studies, and markets.

At Dynata, we see an opportunity to bridge the gap between research and media by connecting high-quality consumer understanding with activation in a way that’s measurable, scalable, and repeatable.

Because research creates understanding.

Media creates reach.

Together they create something more powerful: the ability to turn understanding into action.

That’s the next level of research.

Moving beyond informing decisions to influencing outcomes.
